Is this What it is?

The Bad... Sadly, Rhinocerotic bass player and friend Timmy Wolf passed away recently. It's been really hard on the family and friends. Please keep them and the rest of us in your prayers. I'm thankful for all the great work Timmy has done on my solo work both live shows and playing on the Strange Horses album.

We were planning on shooting a video for Is this What it is?  this spring. Timmy did some really great vocal and bass work on that track. His idea for the video was really cool and he kept reminding me of it the last three times we talked. It was going to start like this... I would be walking down a street singing the tune then Timmy would appear for his harmony in the chorus and walk along with me until we reached a park where our friends and loved ones were waiting. Simple yet I can see it vividly. Is this What it is? has since taken on a more intense meaning, at least for me. Maybe Timmy was just aching for that day when we will see our loved ones in that sunny park-like setting? Aren't we all? I know that I will look forward to seeing him again without struggles or pain. He will be greatly missed. I'm thankful that we were blessed enough to have a final performance as Rhinocerotic last May.

The Good... I've released the first single of 2016 and I'm heading back to Rock on this one! Get your air guitar ready and grab a copy!

More to come... especially about the upcoming Philippine trip, why, and how this came into play...

Expect The Unexpected, And Then You'll Still Be Surprised.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/tim-korry/id412100489

And there I was… at my day job thinking about all the crazy life changes in store this year. Some expected and some, I’m quite sure, unexpected. But isn’t that the way it is for everybody. This blog is very much like a diary of sorts… with pictures and a bit of audio visual here and there. A diary of an under the radar indie musician moving through the blessings of creativity and the challenges of the indie music business. There are a lot of real life happenings that pop up aside from the typical musical updates, and that’s fine. Hey, celebrities rarely let people in on their lives and experiences outside of the entertainment rags. I figured; let’s give this thing a shot as a blog with an unknown outcome, an uncertain avenue. Honestly, I’m using this as an outlet for script and sound and if you can dig it, that’s great.
I’m not politically correct, spiritually apologetic, and I don’t have an agenda aside from getting people to buy and listen to my music. I am a Christian, so if that offends you, then keep reading. I’ve been writing this “real life” blog for a few years now at www.timkorry.com , but now real life is getting more real if that makes any sense. I wrote a 2012 ‘In Ireland’ blog covering a 10 day trip through the Emerald Isle with a short acoustic set I had with some local folk players in Doolin, IRE  (really rough sound due to camera malfunctions). This year will bring another major travel experience possibly with another international short acoustic set.  This year it starts in the Philippines. Why the Philippines? Stay tuned and subscribe for future updates.

In the Bleak Midwinter

www.timkorry.com

It’s been a  busy year. Not so much with the music, although there were 11 singles released, but more with life man.  The plan was to release a single of a different genre every month. Got close and let me tell you, there were some sensational sonic songs flowing out in 2015. We hit indierock, alt-rock, country, Christian rock, soundtrack, dubstep, and many placesin between! Take a listen @ www.timkorry.com.

This month we are releasing the yearly Christmas single for subscribers to the email list.

The Victorian song  Inthe Bleak Midwinter will be done in the style of the Beatles Strawberry Fields Forever mixed with some Procal Harum organ and other retro bits not normally associated with this amazing tune.

Eventually all of the Christmas singles from previous years will be released on an album… maybe next year? On a side note, there may be a band forming with some musicians from some very well known Milwaukee bands. More news to come… The next post will begin a new adventure overseas.  Stay tuned!  Merry Christmas 2 U!

#9 Rebuilding

Moving is hard. That’s all there is to it. Packing, unpacking, the physical lifting and maneuvering, arranging, cleaning, setting up and disconnecting services, and the list goes on…  Adjusting to a new house in a new area is stressful on the mind and body. I’m not new to moving around a bit but it does get harder as time moves on.

Setting up a new home studio is a feat in itself. It will eventually be up and fully functional, but we are just working out the bugs (sometimes literally) and designing a great home studio area. Hey, this place has a bathroom, wet bar, fridge, and a great view. It’s like a small version of Real World Studios overlooking a garden and gazebo. Not bad. The closeness of Lake Michigan and the sounds of the lighthouse and the waves make it a cool location alright.

So onto the musical aspect… I'd like to thank the guys at Sleeping Bag Studios for their support. I had a great interview with Ryan that will be out on an upcoming podcast. This month’s single (#9) was supposed to be released a week ago. Glitches with some equipment and our not very impressive cable provider (I’m sure you can guess who) have delayed this one a bit. The single for September, ON SUNDAY, will actually be released in October so keep your eyes open and sign up on the email list for current info. This single bounces between an Echo and the Bunnymen sound crossed with a horn section and a nod to older U2 tunes. It’s kind of a mutt if you will but has some good energy. Stay tuned as it will be out soon!

#8 Single- Take Control

http://timkorry.com/track/876216

Sometimes life gets rough. We try to control every little detail. Nothing ever turns out exactly as we want regardless. Jobs, friends, and we ourselves disappoint. Now I don’t know where your faith is, if you’re a praying person, or what have you. I know that if you are and you are taking all the things you are praying about back on yourself, you’re missing the whole point. Once you give your burdens to the Lord, leave them there. A lot of times it seems like we pray and then just take everything back on ourselves. Well, I could actually teach a class on this one. I’m the worst offender.

The single this month is about this subject.   And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28). Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? Is what Jesus said. Take Control is a song about someone who is weighed down in the mire, confusion, and disappointment of daily trials and gets to that breaking point crying out to God to take control.

If you understand these feelings and like a sort of ChrisTomlin crossed with Lenny Kravitz, Black Crowes type of raw sound, the download is exclusively available HERE at www.timkorry.com!
