Aidiaphora

So it’s been awhile since I’ve written a blogpost. Well, a lot has happened. Let’s start at the beginning. After the rock band Rhinocerotic burned up with parts flying everywhere, my trajectory shifted to a solo musician mode. Now this was after a few years gun slinging guitar in the DFlowers (Mercury Mayhem), playing quite a few open blues jams, and going through a lot of heavy life experiences. This year is actually the 10^th anniversary of my first solo album MUSIC FROM EARTH. It’s been an interesting 10 years. I went from playing shows as a three piece band with the late melodious monster Timmy Wolf, Tracy Graff, the crazy and great Thundersticks, and the amazing and super cool John Owens III to sequenced shows with my wife Liza. Currently I haven’t had the time to gig out as myself due to joining the Midwest’s premiere U2 tribute band U2Zoo. That in itself is a bizarre thing but has been a fun challenge so far. It’s pretty much like show tunes man. I have to play a character and try to be convincing doing it.

This summer has brought some new opportunities and decisions to make. Suddenly I went from U2Zoo and solo career into being a member of 4 bands! This seems like a bit much with a day job and a family but at this point I’ll give it a go. These are all different genres, different crowds, and different roles. Actually I don’t know if I’ve processed all of it yet but I’m dusting off the guitar and getting ready to string again.  As of this fall I’ll be releasing solo material, the lead singer of U2Zoo, vocals and guitar in a new wave band (an offshoot of U2Zoo) called 1^st Wave, and lead vocal and guitar in the infamous Blacktop Kings! It is sure to be a busy time but promises to be quite an adventure. To mark the 10 year solo anniversary I will be releasing an album of demo songs that were never released on any album. This is not a best of and will be a very raw collection of demo material. I guess we can call it alternative eh? These songs span actually  from the dissolving of Rhinocerotic (roughly around 2000) into the current decade. I’m curious to see the reaction to this very unpolished yet sonically quirky mix of tunes….

Meeting Day!

 I was awakened by sirens, constant barking dogs, whistles, and crazy traffic horns.  This is at 6:15 AM mind you...  ah Manila. We had quite the view of Manila bay but apparently there was some kind of running event across the street for The Day of Valor,  a new holiday to us Westerners. The jeepneys, motorbikes, taxis,  and even a few bikes were out in full force. This is the same place that was still boomin 4 hours ago in the dark right? This place is absolutely unreal. This seriously is a city that never sleeps. I'm looking forward to seeing more of it but probably won't catch much rest here. 

We grabbed breakfast at the Hotel Jen buffet  (not too bad btw) and checked out the hotel pool before Ramon picked us up for our big day. On the way to Samaritans Place Ramon told us about Th Day of Valor, some facts about Manila and the area of Silang, and facts about traditional Filipino life. 

We stopped at a Korean restaurant, yes we've been eating more Korean food than anything, before entering the gated community where SP is located. 

The gates were guarded by some serous looking security guards, and that's good. We pulled up between 2 large gated buildings and Ramon said,"We are here".  Liza and I were pretty nervous and I'm sure that Joshua was too. We met several members of the staff and they seemed very friendly and caring.  There were cameras out and people taking video of the big event as we walked into the area where Joshua and his "house parents" were.  There were hugs, tears, and lots of awkward excitement. It was a strange but wonderful thing to meet our 14 yr old son do the first time. We all knew that it would take time to get to know each other but we were finally together after almost 2 years! 

We spent the ext few hours in the play yard with Joshua, the other kids, and the rest of the staff. Everyone was playing volleyball, basketball, Ping pong, and anything else in sight. It was an amazing experience playing with all these cute kids that we wish we could take home as well. There are so many good kids at this place and the Samaritan's Place and staff are such an amazing blessing. I really can't say enough. They really are a family and take very good care of the children. I'm finding that I really love Filipino values, food, culture, and everything I've encountered. We  had Joshua's favorite "American" dinner of fried chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, and fresh mixed veggies with a few staff members. We were so tired that we hit the sack around 9 in our specially prepared room. Joshua had his own bunk bed in the room. What a day. We were all exhausted.

Snakeline V2

Just a quick update. Above the Snakeline V2, the ReMaster will be out soon! Thanks to the great work by Adam Wilshire from Sheffield UK. The new version will feature music that is more energized and explosive than the original. It will also contain bonus material! I'm also happy to say that Sleeping Bag Studios from BC has produced a fantastic psychedelic music video for the single Unconditional that will be released in days! The new dance remix of Light of Love, arranged by DJ Maxume from South Africa, will also be out very soon! A new steam punk animated logo for www.timkorry.com was just produced by a freelance animator in Romania. It seems like this project is coming together from all directions. We are still in talks with a possible management agency out of L.A., Chicago, and Madison so stay tuned on future live shows!
