So it’s been awhile since I’ve written a blogpost. Well, a lot has happened. Let’s start at the beginning. After the rock band Rhinocerotic burned up with parts flying everywhere, my trajectory shifted to a solo musician mode. Now this was after a few years gun slinging guitar in the DFlowers (Mercury Mayhem), playing quite a few open blues jams, and going through a lot of heavy life experiences. This year is actually the 10^th anniversary of my first solo album MUSIC FROM EARTH. It’s been an interesting 10 years. I went from playing shows as a three piece band with the late melodious monster Timmy Wolf, Tracy Graff, the crazy and great Thundersticks, and the amazing and super cool John Owens III to sequenced shows with my wife Liza. Currently I haven’t had the time to gig out as myself due to joining the Midwest’s premiere U2 tribute band U2Zoo. That in itself is a bizarre thing but has been a fun challenge so far. It’s pretty much like show tunes man. I have to play a character and try to be convincing doing it.

This summer has brought some new opportunities and decisions to make. Suddenly I went from U2Zoo and solo career into being a member of 4 bands! This seems like a bit much with a day job and a family but at this point I’ll give it a go. These are all different genres, different crowds, and different roles. Actually I don’t know if I’ve processed all of it yet but I’m dusting off the guitar and getting ready to string again.  As of this fall I’ll be releasing solo material, the lead singer of U2Zoo, vocals and guitar in a new wave band (an offshoot of U2Zoo) called 1^st Wave, and lead vocal and guitar in the infamous Blacktop Kings! It is sure to be a busy time but promises to be quite an adventure. To mark the 10 year solo anniversary I will be releasing an album of demo songs that were never released on any album. This is not a best of and will be a very raw collection of demo material. I guess we can call it alternative eh? These songs span actually  from the dissolving of Rhinocerotic (roughly around 2000) into the current decade. I’m curious to see the reaction to this very unpolished yet sonically quirky mix of tunes….

Luck

I don't believe in luck. No, that's not a Queensryche song. 

So here it is, a well overdue blogpost. Not that anyone reads this…. 

As St. Patrick’s Day is now over and a successful gig with it, I’m thinking back to 2012 when we were in Ireland. It was an amazing time and a great memory which I wrote a daily post on. I’m thinking about the things that can happen in 5 years man. It’s crazy how much change can occur in a relatively short span of time.

Being a member of U2Zoo has been a real blessing and an interesting experience so far. I never in a million years pictured myself in a band like this. I’ve heard the “You sound a lot like Bono” or “your songs sound like U2” comments but really… I’ve had many years of modeling The Edge and crossing that influence with SRV, Hendrix, and others. Then this gig pops up last June. Man, it’s been quite a ride and it’s just starting.

I haven’t had much of a chance to work on new music in 9 months but feel some brewing up soon as I get back into the guitar and writing aspect. Hey, it’s been 10 years solo since my first album. I’m thinking about releasing a special “best of” or whatever you want to call it. Maybe including something new and something never released. Looking ahead, I’ve started vocal training with Kay Sparling. She’s got quite the resume herself and has taught some famous names including one lead singer of The Grateful Dead who you may have heard of. I’m both terrified and excited about the lessons but this is a long overdue move on my part.  Stay tuned for what happens next.

We are still adjusting to being parents of a little Filipino dude. This is WAY harder and different than I thought it would be. Language barrier, strange kid living in the house, weird and unexplainable teenage behavior… What a long strange trip it’s been. I can’t really say I understand any of it but we move ahead and we change physically, spiritually, emotionally, what have ya. Hopefully our eyes become open so we can see what is around us before it’s too late. So in closing this particular episode, make sure you come and see U2Zoo and make sure you live in the moment, enjoy it, and be thankful for it.

#6 In2 The Blue

...and so it goes. The Great America 6 hour torture show was done. I only say this because five sets is a challenge when you battle the loudspeakers and TVs with stage volume. Yes, they never turned the sound down. Really. Yes, that was a one time show. I can no longer support organizations that exploit musicians. Speaking of Apple....

Okay, this might get a little bit ranty.

#AppleMusic will pay artist for streaming. Well, they weren't at first but now have agreed to pay musicians $.002 per stream. If you are wondering why I do not have an iTunes radio station btw it is because there has to be a certain amount of sales. It is however hard to get sales if nobody hears the music, but I digress. It's just getting harder for indies to make a buck these days selling music or even playing shows. For some reason people are ready to fight you when you asked to be paid for your work and your time. This is indeed the devil's world as of late.

On a different note (ranty part done for now), The new electronic blues single In2 The Blue will be released within days. The sound is kind of like squishing the White Album Beatles into a tube with U2, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and some Dub samples. This single will mark the stepping back into the underlying Alt/Christian realm of previous singles. Really excited about this one! It was a contender for the Snakeline album but was not finished at the time. Lend me your ears, take a listen, and buy a copy HERE.

After the big release of the Celtic Country song Warmer in Dublin, I started working on the next single which is in an entirely different direction. Just as I've said in previous posts, there will be a new single of widely varying genres released every month this year. We have and will be exploring Dubstep, Alt-Christian, Celtic Country, Instrumental Soundtrack, Indie Rock, Blues Dance Rock, and more. May will signal the release of the World/Dubstep fusion song Rajah That, and the final Rhinocerotic reunion. This will be two drastically different musical events mixing the past with the future. It will be a very interesting month musically speaking.

The second single of the year is out! It was actually written by an apostle. Ya, I’ve never had a co-writer quite of this caliber… This indie rock song was taken straight out of Phil 1 in the bible. It was initially a song candidate for the Above the Snakeline album but did not make the final song list. It has been updated and reworked a bit for the full sonic experience.

So, three months into the year and we’ve only released two songs… Yes, I did say that a single will be released every month.  The new alt country song, Warmer in Dublin, will be released on St. Patrick’s Day! Mixed and mastered in Nashville! In the meantime, check out Riverside & From the First Day ‘til Now.

Snakeline V2

Just a quick update. Above the Snakeline V2, the ReMaster will be out soon! Thanks to the great work by Adam Wilshire from Sheffield UK. The new version will feature music that is more energized and explosive than the original. It will also contain bonus material! I'm also happy to say that Sleeping Bag Studios from BC has produced a fantastic psychedelic music video for the single Unconditional that will be released in days! The new dance remix of Light of Love, arranged by DJ Maxume from South Africa, will also be out very soon! A new steam punk animated logo for www.timkorry.com was just produced by a freelance animator in Romania. It seems like this project is coming together from all directions. We are still in talks with a possible management agency out of L.A., Chicago, and Madison so stay tuned on future live shows!

Indignation...Righteous Indignation....Dude

Okay, this will not be the usual blog post. Well, not for me anyway. Unlike many people in the world, I have no problem being brutally honest. Not to offend or upset anyone, but I'm tired of all the "PC" garbage in the out there. It seems as if you can't really say anything with substance or you will offend someone. So, buzz off (I would rather use a different word) if you are easily offended and read some blog from a coffee house or a church (which I find are becoming the same thing).

I'm taking a break from the church music scene as it has become irritating and lifeless. Yeah, you heard me. Listen, I just released a Christian album so I'm not knocking that, but I find that Christian music is so stale and repetitive that it's hard to call it music most of the time. It's more of a template with the same words and chord structures repeated over and over by different "artists". There are exceptions of course with a few real Spirit led bands and they are uplifting and awesome but the Christian bookstore mainstream pop is complete crap. I think that the devil is probably more involved in the promotion of these bands through mainstream CCM stations and churches with no discernment.... Hey man, the music industry is the music industry... period. Wake up you Christian t-shirt wearing sleepwalkers.

But wait, I thought this blog was about the fascinating musical adventures of an indie musician trying to get people to buy some dang music? Well, it is. Sometimes I just gotta blow off some steam while giving you the latest news. So here is whats going on....

I am working with 2 different mastering engineers in the UK on a couple songs from the recently released Above the Snakeline album. It seems that the mastering on the album just wasn't up to par but we will sort that. Chances of re-releasing the album look good. Speaking of a re-release, Strange Horses from 2012 was recently re-released on CDBaby. Check it out to hear some rockin live versions of songs from Music From Earth and remixes from Between the Sun and the Moon! I am also very excited to be working on two projects with DJ Maxume from South Africa. We previously collaborated on U2's Where the Streets Have No Name where I sang the vocals and he cranked out a killer dance mix. He is arranging a new dance remix of Light of Love from the Above the Snakeline album and we will be collaborating on another techno dance song after that. It's been really interesting taking with him on Skype and sharing musical ideas from different continents. It's cool to know that other people around the world have faith and can still express themselves artistically through music. I'm going to quit my rambling but would encourage you to stay tuned.
