So it’s been awhile since I’ve written a blogpost. Well, a lot has happened. Let’s start at the beginning. After the rock band Rhinocerotic burned up with parts flying everywhere, my trajectory shifted to a solo musician mode. Now this was after a few years gun slinging guitar in the DFlowers (Mercury Mayhem), playing quite a few open blues jams, and going through a lot of heavy life experiences. This year is actually the 10^th anniversary of my first solo album MUSIC FROM EARTH. It’s been an interesting 10 years. I went from playing shows as a three piece band with the late melodious monster Timmy Wolf, Tracy Graff, the crazy and great Thundersticks, and the amazing and super cool John Owens III to sequenced shows with my wife Liza. Currently I haven’t had the time to gig out as myself due to joining the Midwest’s premiere U2 tribute band U2Zoo. That in itself is a bizarre thing but has been a fun challenge so far. It’s pretty much like show tunes man. I have to play a character and try to be convincing doing it.

This summer has brought some new opportunities and decisions to make. Suddenly I went from U2Zoo and solo career into being a member of 4 bands! This seems like a bit much with a day job and a family but at this point I’ll give it a go. These are all different genres, different crowds, and different roles. Actually I don’t know if I’ve processed all of it yet but I’m dusting off the guitar and getting ready to string again.  As of this fall I’ll be releasing solo material, the lead singer of U2Zoo, vocals and guitar in a new wave band (an offshoot of U2Zoo) called 1^st Wave, and lead vocal and guitar in the infamous Blacktop Kings! It is sure to be a busy time but promises to be quite an adventure. To mark the 10 year solo anniversary I will be releasing an album of demo songs that were never released on any album. This is not a best of and will be a very raw collection of demo material. I guess we can call it alternative eh? These songs span actually  from the dissolving of Rhinocerotic (roughly around 2000) into the current decade. I’m curious to see the reaction to this very unpolished yet sonically quirky mix of tunes….

Luck

I don't believe in luck. No, that's not a Queensryche song. 

So here it is, a well overdue blogpost. Not that anyone reads this…. 

As St. Patrick’s Day is now over and a successful gig with it, I’m thinking back to 2012 when we were in Ireland. It was an amazing time and a great memory which I wrote a daily post on. I’m thinking about the things that can happen in 5 years man. It’s crazy how much change can occur in a relatively short span of time.

Being a member of U2Zoo has been a real blessing and an interesting experience so far. I never in a million years pictured myself in a band like this. I’ve heard the “You sound a lot like Bono” or “your songs sound like U2” comments but really… I’ve had many years of modeling The Edge and crossing that influence with SRV, Hendrix, and others. Then this gig pops up last June. Man, it’s been quite a ride and it’s just starting.

I haven’t had much of a chance to work on new music in 9 months but feel some brewing up soon as I get back into the guitar and writing aspect. Hey, it’s been 10 years solo since my first album. I’m thinking about releasing a special “best of” or whatever you want to call it. Maybe including something new and something never released. Looking ahead, I’ve started vocal training with Kay Sparling. She’s got quite the resume herself and has taught some famous names including one lead singer of The Grateful Dead who you may have heard of. I’m both terrified and excited about the lessons but this is a long overdue move on my part.  Stay tuned for what happens next.

We are still adjusting to being parents of a little Filipino dude. This is WAY harder and different than I thought it would be. Language barrier, strange kid living in the house, weird and unexplainable teenage behavior… What a long strange trip it’s been. I can’t really say I understand any of it but we move ahead and we change physically, spiritually, emotionally, what have ya. Hopefully our eyes become open so we can see what is around us before it’s too late. So in closing this particular episode, make sure you come and see U2Zoo and make sure you live in the moment, enjoy it, and be thankful for it.

Death, Goth, and Reality.

There has been a lot of death in my life lately. A band mate, feels like my youth sometimes, certain attitudes, and the freedom to do whatever I want whenever I want (that sounds horrible eh?) but that's OK. I gave up some freedom getting married but adopting and becoming an instant dad is a whole new thing. I'm really looking forward to this next adventure so don't misunderstand. It does seem like the death of my old self, what I am used to, but the thing about death is that there is life on the other side... A new life.

Liza and I are super excited to adopt our son. It's been a very long, expensive, and mentally taxing process. We are ready for that new life. I think of seeing all the old things that we have experienced through a new set of eyes. Things that we take for granted like God's natural creations of earth and sky, places we have been, family and people that we know etc... Everything will be new to him and I'm looking forward to seeing those things through his eyes and experiencing them in a brand new way.

Providing that we have a safe trip there and back, I'm looking forward to getting back to some of my musical roots and totally redeveloping my musical identity. Goth band? Blues? Guitar rock?  I'll save that for later posts. Right now I'm more concerned with flying into Seoul South Korea and on into Manila. Yeah, sounds like some of the safest places in the world at this point in time... Wars and rumors of wars... ? Anyway, keep us in your prayers if you're the praying type. Alright, I'm off to work on some new goth rock...  The good stuff like The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Mission, Sisters of Mercy etc... Tomorrow we are traveling to the other end of the world you know. This will be the biggest and most amazing adventure yet! Stay tuned to this blog/diary post for the latest from the Philippines.

Rajah That!

The Rhinocerotic show was a success and a lot of fun. I believe this was one of the few times that I was actually paid in the last 20 yrs. Pretty cool to see the old crowd and work with everybody again.

Rajah That! Was released on Memorial Day 2015. It is a groove driven kaleidoscope with a belly dancing, dubstep, goth, Bollywood, dance vibe. Pretty wild stuff to start out the spring.  Heading into summer we have a big show at SixFlags Great America playing their Live & Local concert series. We will be playing past hits from previous albums with more of a dance vibe and a few acoustic covers throughout the day. We will be releasing a brand new single called Into the Blue! This tune will take us back to the electro-groove of the Above the Snakeline CD with a Depeche Mode/U2 vibe. Sign up on the email list @ www.timkorry.com for up to date info.

Buying direct will be a much easier process than working through CDBaby or some other MP3 sites. Yep….unlike U2, I cannot get an Apple endorsement.

Warmer in Dublin - Celtic Country

It's been a long time coming and it's finally here! The first Celtic Country song from Liza & Tim Korry was released on St. Patrick's Day 2015. Combining elements of old school and modern country with an Irish flair, Warmer in Dublin provides three minutes of "island escapism" (Ireland that is).

It's like this: 

Jimmy Buffet, Steve Earle, and Alan Jackson walk into an Irish pub....

The song was written and arranged by Liza Korry. The music was written and played by Tim Korry. Banjo, mandolin, steel guitar, slide guitar, the spoons, some rockin drums and more were used to construct this unusual country tune. Some amazing mixing and mastering work came straight out of Nashville by way of Tim Scott Productions. This guy is fantastic at what he does and has worked with George Strait, Leann Rimes, Rascal Flatts, Little Big Town, Sara Evans, and Aaron Lewis to name a few. We are definitely looking forward to working with him again!

This song is now the third single released this year. There will be many more to come but this one is really worth spreading the word about. Please help us out and tweet, FB, whatever you do on social media and give us a shout. Your support keeps us going. Thank you! TPK

The second single of the year is out! It was actually written by an apostle. Ya, I’ve never had a co-writer quite of this caliber… This indie rock song was taken straight out of Phil 1 in the bible. It was initially a song candidate for the Above the Snakeline album but did not make the final song list. It has been updated and reworked a bit for the full sonic experience.

So, three months into the year and we’ve only released two songs… Yes, I did say that a single will be released every month.  The new alt country song, Warmer in Dublin, will be released on St. Patrick’s Day! Mixed and mastered in Nashville! In the meantime, check out Riverside & From the First Day ‘til Now.

SINGLES - Not the Movie from the 90's

As things develop in the new year, and they are, I'm thinking of new ways to approach the "music scene". It would seem that the music "seen" would be the way to go over the traditional playing of corner bar dumps. Yea, every towns got 'em. Free beer is fine when you're 22 but it doesn't cut it for much longer. Making quality youtube videos will be a focus this year so to speak.. (video... focus...anyway...) Right now I'm developing an unusual concept for a Door's song with a dubstep style. Surprisingly it jives really well. Yea, you read it right (Wait til the next paragraph with the country part). Converging on some visuals that compliment the music has been a goal for awhile. You know, people used to dig music videos... Why not keep it artsy? There's enough flash, glamor, and other foolish stuff in videos of late.

We are currently working with a very talented Nashville engineer on our first country song. The working title is 'Warmer in Dublin'. It is a song written by Liza Korry and composed by yours truly. Not your average country tune... Think of mixing Jimmy Buffett, Van Morrisson, & U2. Looking forward to getting this one out there and we will with your support! There will be a single released every month vs the album release style. Trying something new this year. Multi-genre full sonic barrage on the way...

The Latest

2014 has been a bit of a musical rollercoaster with very few live shows, a remastered re-release, a benefit single, and a lot of planning for the year ahead. There are a lot of ideas out there I’ll tell you… We anticipated signing a management contract with a Chicago based company but that fell through. Recently our music was accepted by Peter Gabriel’s Cuesongs licensing. This will present the opportunity to license songs for commercials, movies, and games. I’m looking forward to this union and anticipating some great results.

I am currently in full swing and ready to mix my annual Christmas song which will be available free to anyone signed up on the email list. This song will combine full symphonic sound, rock and electronic influences, leading into a dreamy dubstep mix. I have recently built a green screen (low budget but useful all the same).  I’ll be releasing some visually interesting imagery in the new year and I’m eager to combine the artistry of music and the interpretation in video. This is an exciting and challenging area to be jumping into… in the meantime, keep an ear open for that new song and stay cool!

After much consideration, I've decided to create a style of music. Create sounds like sort of a strange thing to say, so maybe we can call it a mix of two genres. Yes, we are still working on the physical released of Above the Snakeline, but pushing ahead into new territories. I am completing a country demo that will be due out this year and working on an extended electronic soundtrack instrumental type of project. I'm very much looking to record some heavy bluesy material with members of The Blacktop Kings. I've been playing with two of these guys often on since I was 18. Lots of irons in the fire right now, but I'm hoping that the heat will melt them into something groundbreaking and impactful. A possibility of a Rhinocerotic reunion? Well, not sure, but I know that two of the members will be working together on a new project due out soon. Stay tuned for more news... This stuff can go either way :)

A New Way

The year started off with some interesting opportunities. Chances to play with the  Spirit Alive band, a chance to play in a strange variation of a U2 cover band, promotion of the Above the Snakeline album to be released as a physical CD in the next month... Not to mention the completion of a country demo and a big soundtrack project. The challenge will be time.....   The possibility of this new sideband, U3, is a really stripped-down U2 cover band featuring Timmy Wolf (Rhinocerotic), Tommy Wolf, and me. There is talk of covering material from George Michael to Lenny Kravitz as well as a few of my tunes. Three guys all acoustic really raw and spirited.

After a summer of loud tunes, drama with the band Revival, and a much needed vacation to Nashville & the Smokies, we are finally ready to release my 4th solo album. It is a very different album in every way. Above the Snakeline is a CD two years in the making. It has developed and evolved out of a 24 song writing binge ala the power of the Holy Ghost. The album is a mixture of rock, world, electronic, and Christian themes resulting in a sonically diverse explosion of rhythms and textures. I'm really excited about this release as it is a departure from the direction of past works. Hey, if you don't continually change and grow musically, you become like the cheesy pop rock template music garbage that keeps me changing radio stations. Yes, Christian bands are frightfully like this as well. How many times do we have to hear lyrical cliches repeated over and over? (Hands & feet, city on a hill, Yadda Yadda)... Or a chorus of "whoa" over a chorus filled with toms and U2 ripoff riffs? Just food for thought. Some of us are still hungry. Hungry for something creative that can still praise GOD.

The inspiration and direction of this album was divinely inspired. I can't really take credit for it. Well, maybe on writing it down and recording it. I found myself playing certain parts of songs back and wondering how I recorded them. It seems like a weird cheesy thing to say but it's true actually. Everything seemed to move with the Spirit on these 10 songs. I'm thankful to GOD for the opportunity to be used in this way. Maybe some of these songs might be heard by someone that really needs to hear them. I don't know, but I do hope that people really enjoy them and rock out with positive encouraging messages. I know that the words speak to me when I really need to hear them.
